[ Not me ;) ]
More specifically we're going to talk about a hat, my hat. It was the first hat I ever learned to make and really kind of started my whole adventure into the world of crochet.
It was before Christmas and I was teaching two of my friends to knit in my friend Amanda's room. But after a couple minutes Amanda got bored of my horrible kitting/ teaching skills and pulled out a crochet hook and pulled up this how-to from Treadbanger, which is an awesome crafting channel on YouTube, and then she started to make the hat...and gave up about two minutes later.
I can't blame her for not wanting to follow the whole video, it is sort of a pain for most people to keep pausing and rewinding the video to catch some part of the pattern they missed but thankfully y'all have me! I ended up making this over that Christmas break and since I'm familiar with the pattern, having made the hat a few times, I will save you the pausing and rewinding and write it down. Once again this is NOT my pattern, this is a verbatim copy of the pattern in the video linked to already.
Abbreviations: sl st = slip stitch; sc = single crochet
Materials: Use any size hook, but note that the hat will turn out better with a thicker yarn. More than 103 yards of it.
To begin: Chain 8, join with single crochet in the eighth stitch from the hook.
Round 1: Do two sc in each stitch around.
Round 2: *sc, sc, sc, 2sc; Repeat from * all the way around. End of round marked by the tail.
Round 3: sc all the way around.
Round 4: 2sc in each stitch all the way around.
Round 5: *sc, sc, sc, sc, 2sc; Repeat from * all the way around.
Round 6: sc all the way around.
Round 7: *sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, 2sc; Repeat from * all the way around.
Round 8: sc all the way around.
Round 9: *sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, 2sc; Repeat from * all the way around.
Round 10: *sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, 2sc; Repeat from * all the way around.
Round 11: *sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, 2sc; Repeat from * all the way around.
Round 12: *sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, 2sc; Repeat from * all the way around.
Round 13: *sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, 2sc; Repeat from * all the way around.
Round 14: *sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, 2sc; Repeat from * all the way around.
Round 15: *sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc, 2sc; Repeat from * all the way around.
Round 16: sc all the way around for every round until the hat is as "tall" as you need.
Basically what I do is put it on my head periodically to see if it reaches the tops of my ears and when it does I may do one or two more rounds but then I stop. =)
Finishing off
Round 1: *sc, sc, sc, SKIP next stitch; Repeat from * all the way around.
Round 2:*sc, sc, sc, SKIP next TWO stitches; Repeat from * all the way around.
After this you can either finish off the way we talked about last time or the way the girl in the video does. Either way, you now have an awesome new hat!
Tune in Thursday when we make a super cozy sleep mask. See ya then! =D
